Goal
Assess whether SONDA could offer cheaper cloud zones on OpenStack, for clients with lower availability needs than its VMware vCloud platform. Industrial Engineering thesis at UAI.
What I did
- The most interesting technical part: building a 50-node university cloud with Mirantis OpenStack (the 2014 release), on servers that originally ran ESXi.
- We built a Gartner-based TCO model, fed with list prices and lab measurements: hardware, space, power, licenses and support.
- We compared the incumbent, vCloud Suite, against OpenStack alternatives across availability levels.
